There are multiple benefits of solar panels simply due to the fact that they make clean energy from the natural elements on our planet. An added bonus is the fact that they're a renewable energy source, so it's not a resource that will run out. Maybe you've thought about getting solar panels, but you're unsure if they're worth it. If so, I recommend reading on to learn more about this fantastic source of energy.

Building your own solar panels at home isn't as difficult as many people think. Of course, you do need to have some DIY skills, in that you need to be handy with a soldering iron and to be able to handle a saw, but other than that you can have a solar panel ready in no time at all. To build your own solar panels you will need just a few basic items. You will need to use silicon caulk or wood glue of some type to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. For wiring made easy, try to find solar panels that already have the tabs on them. If you can not find solar panels with tabs you will have to solder on the tabs before you glue them in place.

The plexiglass is for protection of your cells. To attach the cells to the box, you will need to glue some strips of wood inside the box, also known as substrate, onto which you will glue the solar cells. Only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell because wood tends to expand and shrink with the weather. Solar cells can be damaged if the wood shifts, that is why you need to use a dot of caulk. Once the caulk has set, all you need to do is to drill a hole in the box for the wires but make sure to fill it with caulk after you have pushed the wires through to make sure that no moisture gets in. Then, screw your Plexiglas on and mount it where you want.

Batteries will need to be connected and you may want to solder a diode first. Power will flow from the solar cells to the batteries. Lastly make sure that you are not wasting power. On the other hand, if you are using a charge controller then this step is not necessary. You must place solar panels on top of your building or home so that they can receive sunlight and power your home at the same time. The cost of heating your home will dramatically reduce, especially if you use your solar panels to power your heating system.
